May 3, 2023

Caraveo Toured Vital Local Ag Producers Ahead of 2023 Farm Bill Drafting

GREELEY – Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo, M.D. (CO-08), who sits on the House Agriculture Committee, yesterday dug in on Colorado agriculture issues. As the House Agriculture Committee prepares to begin crafting the 2023 Farm Bill, Caraveo toured numerous farms that are vital to our local economy and agriculture industry in Northern Colorado.

Congresswoman Caraveo, who will help to lead drafting a portion of the Farm Bill because of her seat as Ranking Member on the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Commodity Markets, and Rural Development, is prioritizing hearing directly from farmers, ranchers, producers, and ag researchers in our community. She has held listening sessions with local farmers and launched a submission form to receive direct input from community members on the District’s Farm Bill priorities.

Yesterday, Caraveo made stops at:

Morning Fresh Dairy Farm

This farm is a fifth-generation dairy and the producer of Noosa Yogurt. Her visit included a tour of the facility and meet and greet with the farmer.

CSU’s off campus AgNext Program site

CSU has the leading agriculture program, and is home to AgNext, whose mission is to find sustainable solutions in animal agriculture. Although CSU is headquartered in Fort Collins, much of their agriculture research takes place in the 8th District. Congresswoman Caraveo toured CSU’s cutting-edge agricultural research facility, both indoors and in their feed lot.

Five Rivers Feeding in Kersey

Five Rivers is the world’s largest cattle feeding company. They have three feedlots in CD-8, including the one Congresswoman Caraveo toured in Kersey. Five Rivers feeds 900,000 head of cattle across all their feedlots, and 100,000 at the Kersey feedlot alone.

Hungenberg Produce irrigation system tour

Hungenberg Produce is a family-owned farm that has existed for about 100 years, the last thirty of which they have focused on growing carrots. Congresswoman Caraveo participated in a tour of their irrigation system and they discussed current innovations around irrigation and the important nexus between water and agriculture.
